  • Mexican troops begin to move into Texas
    The leader of the garrison was Col. Juan Bradburn
    Tensions increased-The tax collector demanded all customs duties be paid at the mouth of the Brazos river
    Two men were arrested for protesting against Bradburns' policies-William B Travis and Patrick Jack

Law of April 6, 1830

The law of April 6, 1830 was an attempt by the Mexican government to increase Mexican influence in Texas.


  • All immigration from the United States will no longer be allowed
    All empresario contracts are suspended
    No new slaves can be brought into Texas.

  • Mexican influence decreased as one moved northward.
    Anglo settlers outnumbered Mexican settlers
    United States influence in Texas was growing stronger every day
    United states wanted and offered to buy Texas

Fredonian Rebellion

Who: Haden Edwards, Benjamin Edwards (Brothers)
What: Haden Edwards required all settlers to have a land title or purchase one. He was not allowed to do this. Benjamin Edwards led a revolt taking over Nacogdoches. They left when the Mexican army arrived.
Where: Nacogdoches
When: 1825
Why: Rebellion occured because Edwards was unhappy about his contract being cancelled.

Wanted democracy, rights such as trial by jury
Were used to freedom of relligion
Wanted slavery

Mexicans
No history of democracy
No trial by jury
Catholic is national religion
Did not want/like slavery
